“From Struggle to Success” Think as your customer
A great marketing campaign can sell everything. The big companies spend thousands of dollars on advertising and finding out how their customers look at the product or service they are offering.
The most of the startups can not afford to spend huge amounts on advertising, but fortunately they can always put their selves in the position of the customer and think as a customer. Dhruv Goel is a founder of Delhi Design Studio and in this article he will explain why it is important to think as your customer.
1. What is your idea/ business about? How the idea was born?
Delhi Design Studio is a group of branding and marketing experts with big thinking and innovative strategies as our driving force. We work closely with various start ups to create fresh, new concepts, iconoclastic branding design and innovative marketing strategies that challenge convention. We push the envelope. We think big and deliver even bigger.
We originally started our journey with offering creative design support to customers. We learnt that there was a big need in the market for quality branding. It is important to have a good campaign. However, it is even more important to design that campaign well; otherwise you would never catch the attention of your customers.
That’s where we originated.
Over the time, with a boom in the Start Up ecosystem, we realized there was a large chunk of entrepreneurs who had great products/ ideas, but lack the right knowledge and experience to strategically place and promote their products in the market. That is when we decided to assist these entrepreneurs, as branding and marketing Consultants and bring in the same kind of creativity and consistency in our marketing support too. So basically we help start ups reach out to their customers by creating thought provoking marketing strategies, supported by eye catching brand creativity.
Our Belief is that people just don’t buy products, they buy immersive experiences.
We craft fresh branding campaigns and innovative marketing strategies that build such experiences!
2. Tell me about yourself and your team?
Our team consists of designers, illustrators, marketing and branding professionals. We have a flexible working model with people being part of us, full time, part time and on project basis.
We are also into strategic partnerships with individuals and organizations specializing in different domains to ensure we deliver the best of what we can offer.
3. What are the main struggles that you have experienced?
So with a boom in start ups, there was a big demand for our services. However making them realize the importance of paying for quality isn’t always easy. As any startup, they would want the best at the least cost. Now this always doesn’t work in their favor. They are many people willing to offer services at 1/10th the cost, drastically compromising on service quality. Many companies go in for such service providers; feel cheated, and then come back with high scepticism.
4. How did you solve your problems?
Well, initially there wasn’t much we could do about this problem. We could not lower our prices to an extent that hurt our work quality. However, we did try and identify a pricing model that didn’t hurt the pockets of upcoming start ups, and did cover our expenses too. Yes that meant cutting margins to a minimum, but it gave us the space to grow with our clients.
5. If you had a chance what would you do in differently?
So, as the famous saying goes, ‘The grass is greener on the other side’, i.e. there is a lot that we could do differently. However, I’d like to still say that we are happy with how we proceeded. As an organization, we did learn and grow with every mistake we made along this journey!
6. What was the best advice you got and what was the worst?
So the best advice has to be one that I give to all my clients: “See your brand from the eyes of your customer, before you take any decision”.
7. What will be your advice to the other entrepreneurs?
It’s become a very competitive market. Be clear of your business direction, and don’t cut corners when it comes to reaching out to your customers!
